In thinking about Denise's question re: our ability to talk about (or even know fully) our process, I thought of TR Hummer, whom I think is both a fine poet and fine thinker about poetry. So consider this poem and what he has to say about it.

What I found particularly intriguing about TR Hummer's discussion was that he said this is when he began pushing himself beyond the personal and that this took a lot of effort -- implying, I guess, that this kind of writing was more difficult for him than was writing about the personal. I think for me, it is the opposite. That is, I find it more difficult to write about the personal and find that I am not successful most of the time. More of the "not reveal enough" vs. too much conundrum. Anyway, I enjoyed the poem and, as always, liked reading about his back story (the volume from his grandmother) which he intertwines masterfully in the poem. Thank you as always for sharing this, Gerry.
